Meta is incorporating generative artificial intelligence into all its applications. This is its own AI assistant, called Meta AI, which can be used on WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.
This chatbot is a computer program based on artificial intelligence that can hold a conversation with a user through real-time text messages. With it, by giving a text instruction, users can have a conversation, create images, or search for information with the MetaAI assistant. All of this is free, at least for now.
Where Meta AI Is Available
Meta has just announced an expansion of access to Meta AI, which is now available in 22 countries worldwide. The Meta assistant in apps and devices has just arrived in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. In addition to these Latin American countries, it is now also available in Cameroon. For now, Meta’s AI is not available in the European Union, where it faces possible regulatory issues.
In the countries where it is already available, Meta AI can be used on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook. Until now, it could only be used in English, but it is now also available in new languages: French, German, Hindi, Romanized Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, and also Spanish.
New Features in Meta AI
In addition to the ability to have a conversation, get ideas, and receive help using Meta’s app tools, the AI assistant has also incorporated new functionalities.
Imagine me. One of the most interesting is called “Imagine Me,” which is already available in beta in the United States and will be coming to more markets soon. It allows you to create images from a user’s photo, based on prompts like “imagine me surfing” or “imagine me walking on the beach at sunset.”
To use it, prompts must start with “Imagine me” in the Meta AI chat to get AI-generated images that can be published on social networks or shared with family and friends through an instant messaging group.
New editing features. Meta AI also incorporates new creative editing capabilities. Now you can easily add or remove objects, as well as edit them to adjust their size or position, while keeping the rest of the photo as it was. You just need to include a command like “change that cat to a dog.”
Publishing AI-generated images. The assistant is now able to create photos and publish them directly in the feed, stories, comments, or direct messages on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp in all countries where it is present, although for now it can only be used in English. According to Meta, new languages will be added “in the coming weeks.”
Additionally, the Meta assistant can now use the most advanced open-source model, Llama 3.1. 405B, which puts Meta AI on the same level as other conversational chats like ChatGPT and with which developers can also create applications and add generative capabilities using Meta’s AI.
