Google confirms new changes to its algorithm

Google has begun rolling out a new and significant update to its search algorithm, known as the March 2025 Core Update. This overhaul, which is already underway for all users, will be implemented gradually and is expected to be fully deployed within two weeks.

What is the goal of this update?

The main purpose of this Core Update is to improve the relevance of search results and reduce the presence of content considered spam or low quality. With this adjustment, Google aims to provide a more useful and accurate search experience for all users.

What changes compared to the previous update?

The last major algorithm update was released in December 2024, and since then only minor tweaks had been made. The March 2025 Core Update marks a deeper change that will directly influence the ranking of web pages within search results.

Will it directly affect your website?

Google has clarified that this update is not designed to penalize or benefit specific websites, nor any particular type of content. Rather, it is a general evolution of the system to improve how pages are ranked. Therefore, changes in rankings should not be interpreted as penalties, but as part of a continuous improvement process for the search engine.

What should website administrators do?

For now, the recommendation is to closely monitor your website’s performance over the next few weeks. Once the update is complete, it will be possible to assess its real impact on rankings and organic traffic.

Google also reminds us that the document it published in 2019 on how to approach Core Updates is still valid, and can be a useful guide to better understand how to handle these changes.
