- Strategic planning and excellent customer support have enabled Kingston to achieve a 26% market share.
- The strong business position is maintained in 2022.
Kingston Technology Company, a world leader in memory products and technology solutions, announced today that TrendForce has named it the number one third-party SSD supplier in the channel throughout 2021. According to TrendForce, Kingston supplied an impressive 26% of the 127 million units sold in 2021.
Although the pandemic continued to disrupt the supply of SSD components in 2021, sales through global distribution channels had an annual growth rate of 11%. While production demand increased, sales volume was affected due to a limited wafer supply that prevented orders from being fulfilled on time. In response, Kingston adopted a limited supply strategy as prices rose. Thanks to its global component sourcing strategy, Kingston outperformed its competitors.
The results confirm Kingston’s position as the undisputed leader in SSD production, as the next supplier reached only 8% of the channel market. As a category overall, third-party (non-semiconductor) SSD suppliers accounted for 58% of all sales in 2021. The growing demand for gaming SSDs with PCIe 4.0 NVMe continues to define the market landscape, with a shift from SATA modules to PCIe.
TrendForce predicts that delivering upgrades will surely improve brand recognition and continue to drive sales. In 2021, Kingston added two PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSDs to its portfolio, as well as the KC3000 and Kingston FURY Renegade SSDs. These high-performance drives joined the SSD family for Kingston customers who demand speed and reliability for gaming workloads and desktop and laptop applications. According to TrendForce, price, availability, and the ability to offer global production and comprehensive sales services will be important factors for continuing to increase PCIe SSD sales in the future.
Kingston Technology’s presence is largely due to its strong relationships with customers and channel partners worldwide. As the health crisis spread globally and companies quickly adapted, Kingston continued to offer top-tier sales support and access to its engineers and product experts, who represent the “Kingston Is With You” attitude that has led to more than three decades of reliability and customer support. Kingston’s number one position in the SSD market is no surprise, as the same strategy in the DRAM division has made the company the largest third-party memory module supplier for 19 consecutive years.
“It is an honor to achieve this leadership ranking as Kingston celebrates its 35th anniversary,” said Keith Schimmenti, SSD business manager at Kingston. “From the beginning, Kingston’s focus and sales strength have been with customers and channel partners worldwide. Together, these successful relationships have helped our SSD business grow rapidly. The latest TrendForce results recognize these efforts, so of course, we share this achievement with them.”
