Kingston Technology Company, a world leader in memory products and technology solutions, today announced the launch of its new encrypted USB drive, IronKey Vault Privacy 50 (VP50), featuring FIPS 197 certification and 256-bit AES hardware encryption in XTS mode for data security. VP50 provides encrypted storage with physical user control, making it a superior resource compared to the Internet and cloud services for any business needing to back up important information.
Kingston IronKey Vault Privacy 50 supports multiple passwords—admin, user, and one-time recovery—with complex or passphrase modes, greatly improving the ability to regain access to drive data if a password is forgotten. While the traditional complex mode allows passwords of 6 to 16 characters using 3 of 4 character sets, the new passphrase mode lets users set a numeric PIN, phrase, word list, or even song lyrics from 10 to 64 characters, making it unique yet easy to remember. For easier typing, the “eye” symbol can be enabled to reveal the entered password, reducing failed login attempts.
The admin can also enable a user password and a one-time recovery password or reset the user password to restore data access. VP50 also protects against brute force attacks by locking user or recovery passwords after 10 invalid attempts and wipes the drive if the admin password is entered incorrectly 10 times in a row. Thus, even if data is lost, there is no risk of a data breach.
VP50 can also protect against potential malware on untrusted systems, as both admin and user can set read-only mode to protect the drive from being written to. It also features a virtual keyboard to protect passwords from keyloggers or screenloggers. Organizations can customize and configure VP50 with a product ID (PID) to integrate with standard Endpoint Management software, meeting corporate IT and cybersecurity requirements through Kingston’s Customization Program. Small and medium businesses can use the admin role to locally manage their drives, such as configuring or resetting user or recovery passwords, regaining access to locked drives, and complying with laws and regulations when forensic analysis is required.
“Vault Privacy 50 joins our Kingston IronKey family of encrypted solutions as a premium USB drive to provide enterprise-level data security,” said Richard Kanadjian, business manager for encrypted products at Kingston. “We’ve added some of the most requested features from our customers, such as the new multi-password option and passphrase mode, not only to protect 100 percent of stored data but also to make the drive easier to use.”
Kingston IronKey Vault Privacy 50 is available in capacities from 8GB to 256GB and is backed by a five-year limited warranty, free technical support, and Kingston’s legendary reliability. This product may be available in your country by special order through specialized channels.
