Kingston celebrates 35 years of leadership in memory and storage solutions

Their high-quality, reliable products power the key technologies people use to live, work, and play.

Kingston Technology Company commemorates 35 years of leadership and presence in the technology market, celebrating how its solutions empower people, society, and businesses in today’s ultra-connected world. From homes to offices, and even in outer space, Kingston’s products—such as solid-state drives (SSD) and high-performance memory—power some of the most important technologies for humanity and the future.

The brand initiative “Kingston Is With You” takes on special significance in this celebration. The company’s history reflects Kingston’s commitment to its users, suppliers, partners, and distributors worldwide, ensuring it is with them at all times.

It is very satisfying to be part of a company that has remained an industry leader for 35 years. Kingston has established itself as the world’s number one independent manufacturer of memory products. In these more than three decades, we have seen the industry evolve, adding storage solutions, RAM, flash memory, USB, and more recently, strengthening our encrypted security devices, as well as portable storage that facilitates mobility,” said Carlos Alvergue, Country Manager of Kingston in El Salvador.

In 1987, faced with the need to find a solution to the severe shortage of surface-mount memory chips, Kingston founders John Tu and David Sun combined their engineering knowledge to develop a new and revolutionary Single In-Line Memory Module (SIMM) using existing components, launching a successful company that transformed the memory market.

Since then, the brand has established itself as a global leader in RAM products for all types of computers—desktops, gaming, data center servers, and virtually any device that requires memory. It also leads the solid-state drive (SSD) market and offers a complete family of Flash memory, including encrypted USBs and Micro SD cards, covering a wide range of users and placing Kingston virtually everywhere.

In 2020, TrendForce named Kingston the number one third-party DRAM supplier for the 18th consecutive year. A DRAMeXchange report published in 2020 showed Kingston’s DRAM market share at a high 78.02%. In the SSD category, in 2021 Trendforce named Kingston the top channel SSD supplier for the fifth consecutive year, with a 26% market share, far ahead of the second place. Since 2016, Kingston has also been the leading supplier of hardware-encrypted USB drives, including its IronKey line.

Nearly 20 years after launching its first high-performance memory, Kingston reached another milestone by introducing its DDR5 product line last year, becoming the first third-party supplier to receive Intel platform validation. The 2021 launch of the Kingston FURY brand further strengthened its position in the global market.

During 2022, we have deepened our positioning in the gaming segment, both with new launches like the new DDR5 RAM standard and with new trends, such as the addition of white components, ideal for achieving both performance and aesthetics. For 2023, we see great opportunities in diverse markets with our security solutions, in industries such as banking, healthcare, and government, and for end users, in ever-larger storage—even for the video surveillance market,” added the executive.

Kingston has a global presence and is a private company that operates more like a large family, maintaining long-lasting relationships with its collaborators, partners, and distributors in the market.

The solutions we offer help facilitate everyday interactions, create solutions, and power projects. In our daily operations, we keep in mind that the success of all parties involved in our business is also our success. That’s why our celebration of more than three decades of achievements further highlights our excellent relationships with people and companies alike. We will never waver in our commitment to meet the changing needs of societies around the world with our quality products,” concluded Alvergue.
