Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the world’s leading independent memory products manufacturer, today announced the launch of a new product in its encrypted drive lineup: the IronKey Vault Privacy 80 External SSD (VP80ES). This is Kingston’s first OS-independent external SSD with a touchscreen and hardware encryption for data protection.
Using IronKey VP80ES is as easy as unlocking a smartphone and as simple as transferring files. With an intuitive color touchscreen and FIPS 197 certification with 256-bit XTS-AES encryption, the VP80ES is designed to protect data and is very user-friendly. The drive is ideal for protection against brute force and BadUSB attacks with digitally signed firmware for all types of users—from small and medium businesses to content creators. Its military-grade security measures are superior to those offered by the Internet and cloud services for protecting important business information, documents, images, and high-resolution videos.
In addition to its ease of use and hardware encryption, the VP80ES offers additional data protection features such as multi-password option (Admin/User) with PIN/Passphrase modes and configurable password rules. With the Admin option, you can choose between numeric PIN or Passphrase modes, set configurable password rules, or enable extended security options like maximum shared password attempts, minimum password length from 6 to 64 characters, alphanumeric password rules, automatic drive lock timeout, and secure erase to ensure maximum protection of important files. The admin password can be used to restore data and access if the user password is forgotten. For extra peace of mind, VP80ES’s brute force protection crypto-erases the drive if the Admin and User passwords are entered incorrectly 15 times1 in a row.
However, there’s no need to fear forgetting your password: using the “space” character makes it easier to remember a passphrase, such as a word list, a memorable quote, or the lyrics of a favorite song. The PIN keypad can also be used to unlock the VP80ES, just like on a mobile device. To reduce failed login attempts and frustration, tap the “eye” button to view the entered password. VP80ES includes a neoprene travel case and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 adapter cables for easy connection to USB Type-C®2 or Type-A compatible computers and other devices, making it the perfect companion for portable productivity and convenience when you need to protect data and content anywhere.
“As more people continue working from home and outside company firewalls, we want to provide higher-capacity, military-grade security products that are easy to use so small and medium businesses can complement their current encrypted USB drives,” said Richard Kanadjian, encrypted drives business manager at Kingston. “IronKey Vault Privacy 80ES does just that. With its color touchscreen, vast security features, and small form factor, users can truly control their data in their own hands.”
The Kingston IronKey Vault Privacy 80 external SSD will be available around the third quarter of the year in 480 GB, 960 GB, and 1920 GB capacities, and comes with a three-year limited warranty, free technical support, and Kingston’s legendary reliability.
