5 Tips for Creating Better Instagram Carousels

Instagram now allows you to upload up to 20 photos or videos per post, known as carousels. This is a very popular type of post. In fact, 10% of posts on Instagram are carousels, according to a SocialInsider study that analyzed more than 22 million posts.

Whether you want to create a small presentation with several slides or form a single panoramic image within the same post, here are five tips and tricks to help you get the most out of Instagram carousels.

Tips to Get More Out of Instagram Carousels

Take note of these tricks to make the most of carousels on Instagram

-The more images, the better: Carousels can have from 2 to 20 images or videos. You can choose to include just a few, but it’s proven that carousels with eight or more images have a higher interaction rate, close to 2%.

On average, carousels receive 7.99 comments, and those that perform best in terms of interactions are the ones that mix still images with video. Not surprisingly, many ads on the social network adopt this format.

-Divide content according to the AIDA rule (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action): According to this design philosophy, Attention should be captured in the first two images, with a title on the first and an introduction on the second.

Interest should be generated in slides three to seven. Then, Desire (showing results or solving a problem) is reserved for slides eight and nine, and the same applies to the following ones.

Finally, the call to Action should occur on the last slide. Try setting up your carousels this way and you’ll see how much more attention they attract.

-Use your own visual style: If your posts consist of your own illustrations, which is very common for brands, it’s important that everything has visual coherence. You should choose a color palette, fonts, and visual resources in advance. It’s best if everything follows the same line, so using design programs like Adobe Illustrator is key.

-Review the content: While the presentation will catch the eye, the message is what really matters. Try to synthesize your ideas as much as possible, which means making several drafts of the text. Don’t forget that the text should be reviewed by at least one other person to ensure it’s clear and error-free.

-Design tips: Make sure the content is legible on Instagram, so it’s recommended to use a font size of at least 80 points for titles (which should ideally be no more than 10 words) and at least 30 points for body text.

The dimensions of the photos should all be the same, so a resolution of 1920×1920 pixels for square images or 1080×1350 pixels for rectangular images is recommended, as these are the sizes recommended by Instagram.
